New harmon.ie is a web add-in, and as such works in most Outlook flavors – classic Outlook, Outlook for Mac, Outlook on the Web, and the new Outlook. If you need to work with any Outlook other than classic Outlook for Windows, you should use New harmon.ie. Note, New harmon.ie is scheduled
to GA before the end of this year, and while New harmon.ie provides most of the
features needed to manage your M365 documents/emails, we still have work to do. See our comparison table for further details.

Installation and Administration

You can run both at the same time, so there’s no need to uninstall one product to work with the other. Harmon.ie Classic works in classic Outlook for Windows, new harmon.ie works in classic Outlook for Windows and Mac, Outlook on the Web, and new Outlook.

New harmon.ie can be enabled centrally by IT using M365 admin console or added by the user from the AppSource. To remove New harmon.ie, open Outlook Add-Ins, locate the add-in, then click the ellipsis and then Remove. If this option is not available, contact your IT team as they have most likely disabled it.

Security and Privacy

New harmon.ie is using the OAuth 2.0 authentication to connect with M365 on behalf of the app users, in order to view and work with M365 files that the user is authorized to see. The consent requirement in OAuth 2.0 for M365 is a fundamental aspect of ensuring that users maintain control over their data, that their privacy is protected, and that security and compliance standards are upheld. New harmon.ie is a Web add-in connecting directly to your company’s M365 tenant.  There is no harmon.ie SaaS, or harmon.ie backend/servers. New harmon.ie does connect to MixPanel (to track product activity for improvements) as defined in the harmon.ie EULA. For more information, read harmon.ie security page.

harmon.ie sends data to our License Manager and Mixpanel, to ensure license compliance and track product activity for improvements.

Mixpanel tracks the actions that were performed, such as search, navigate, open document, copy link, and upload email. No filenames, URLs, search terms, etc. are collected.
The harmon.ie License Manager is sent the email address and date of installation.

Using new harmon.ie

  1. New harmon.ie can be opened in Outlook in the context of an email message. Select a message in Outlook.
  2. Click the App icon (App icon) inside the email message and then select New harmon.ie from the list.
  3. Select New harmon.ie from the list.

Drag and drop works within classic Outlook and Outlook for Mac. However, drag and drop doesn’t currently work in the new Outlook due to technical limitations in the MS Office web add-in framework available for the new Outlook. We are working with Microsoft on adding this feature.

Yes. When you save an email to SharePoint or Teams, a dialog opens showing the email and all attachments. You can check the attachments you want to save, and you can also uncheck the email itself if you don’t want to save it.
If you are working with New harmon.ie inside classic Outlook or Outlook for Mac, you can drag and drop attachments to harmon.ie to save them in M365.

Use New harmon.ie to quickly share an M365 file in Teams. To do that:

  1. In the harmon.ie sidebar, locate the file you want to Share to Teams.
  2. Hover over the file, and then click Share (Share icon). Select Share to Teams (Share to Teams icon).
  3. This launches the Share to Microsoft Teams dialog.
    Start typing the name of a person, group, or channel you want to share the file with. Select one or more people, groups, or channels by clicking their names in the list.
  4. Optionally, edit the message that will accompany the shared file.
  5. Click Share.

  1. Select the emails you want to save.
  2. In the harmon.ie sidebar, locate the SharePoint, Teams, or OneDrive location to which you want to save the emails.
  3. Hover over the location name and click the Save selected email icon (Save email icon).

The emails are uploaded to the selected location.

harmon.ie Classic automatically adds ‘Followed Sites’ from SharePoint (indicated with a star icon) to the sidebar. New harmon.ie currently doesn’t add Followed Sites. Use Manage Sites to add sites to New harmon.ie.

Multi-tenant support is currently not supported in the New harmon.ie, only in harmon.ie Classic.
