Finding SharePoint documents

The harmon.ie sidebar allows you to find a SharePoint document or a SharePoint location, using one or more of the following methods:

Navigating SharePoint sites and libraries

Before you can start to navigate in the sidebar, you need to add a SharePoint site. Then, you need to open the harmon.ie sidebar.

Note: harmon.ie complies with the permission levels defined by the SharePoint administrator and will allow you to view documents depending on your logged in user's permissions.

Basic navigation elements of the documents list.

  • Site selection: Use the drop-down list in the sidebar to quickly switch between all SharePoint sites that are added in the harmon.ie application options.
  • Document list: Subsites (if configured to be shown) (), document libraries (), folders (), and documents are listed in the document list (the main area of the sidebar). Double-click a subsite, document library, or folder to navigate to it and view its contents. When applicable, the topmost entry is displayed as “..” and links to the parent location when double-clicked.
  • History: The sidebar tracks a list of recently visited locations, allowing you to easily navigate back and forth between them. To learn more, read Using the navigation history.
  • Status pane: The status pane at the bottom of the sidebar panel shows you the breadcrumbs (parent elements) of the current location. Click a link in the breadcrumbs to quickly nagivate to a parent location. Right-clicking any of the elements in the breadcrumbs opens the context menu from which you can select Open in Browser or Copy Address.
The breadcrumbs context menu lets you copy the address of the current location or open it in a web browser.
  • Favorites: The star to the left indicates if the location is in the favorites list. More information on handling favorites is available in the help topic Adding favorite locations.

Navigate to a SharePoint link

To open a SharePoint library or document for which you have a URL in the harmon.ie sidebar:

  1. Open the Documents tab.
  2. Press Ctrl+F or click the Search icon () in the navigation/search omnibox. Alternatively, click an empty space inside the omnibox.
  3. Type or paste the SharePoint library or document’s full URL in the location selector, and press Enter.

harmon.ie navigates to the document’s location in SharePoint and highlights the document for you. If the SharePoint site is not yet registered, harmon.ie suggests adding it to your registered sites list. Once registered, harmon.ie navigates to the SharePoint location and highlights the document.

Note: You can use the Search icon to navigate to a SharePoint library as well as a SharePoint document.

  2. Select a term from the suggested list.

Sorting

Sort the list of SharePoint items in the current location by clicking any visible column header, such as Name, Modified By, or Rating. Clicking an already sorted column header reverses the sorting order.

You can also sort the SharePoint items by selecting Sort By from the document list's context menu, when no item is selected.

Refreshing the document list

Click the Refresh icon (Refresh button in harmon.ie toolbar.) to reload the document list, and to view changes made to the SharePoint location and its server settings. You can also refresh the document list by using the F5 keyboard shortcut.
