Viewing document/item updates

Use harmon.ie's People tab to view updates for changed or new documents/items in SharePoint locations that you follow.

You can filter the Updates view by the type of update.

Note: If a social server is not configured, the Updates list appears in the Updates tab (and not under the People tab).

How do I know that there are new updates to read?

A red dot in the People tab indicates that there are new updates.

A red dot in the Updates view indicates that there are new updates.

The updates that were added to the Updates list since you last visited it are highlighted.

Update types:

The People tab lists recent activities that may interest you, including:

  • Changes in SharePoint libraries and lists that you follow: new document/item created or document/item edited.
    • Clicking a document name opens the containing folder in the sidebar, selects the document, and shows its version history.
    • Clicking an item name opens the Item Info page.
    • Clicking a document/item location opens that location in the sidebar.
    • Clicking a user name opens this person's business card.

To filter the updates view:

By default, you see all types of updates. You can filter the updates view using:

  • Updates filter (Updates filter icon). The filter menu lets you select / unselect the types of document/item updates you will see:
    • Documents. When unselected, updates on new and updated documents in locations you follow are not shown.
    • Lists. When unselected, updates on new and updated list items in lists you follow are not shown.
    • <Favorite location 1>. When unselected, updates for documents/items in this location are not shown.
    • <Favorite location 2>
Note: You can use the Documents/items filter to follow more SharePoint locations. Open the filter and select Follow other favorites to launch the Favorites dialog. Select a location you want to edit, click Edit > Follow library / folder / list updates.

To view updates made by a certain person:

To remove a location from the updates list:

Unfollow that SharePoint location (library, folder, or list).

How often does the Updates view update?

By default, the Updates view refreshes every 60 minutes. The interval can be changed in the options.

To manually update the Updates view, click the Refresh button (Refresh icon).

The Updates tab:

When no social server is configured, the People tab is replaced by the Updates tab. In this case it includes changes only in SharePoint locations that you follow: new document/item created or updated.
