Finding people

Finding the right person can help you get things done quickly. To find a person, use one or more of the following methods:
The people tab helps you find and interact with your coworkers

  • Search for people by name or other SharePoint user profile detail, such as skills, current projects, or title.
  • Go to the Recent view in the People tab to see the people you recently interacted with, by email or Skype for Business / Sametime interaction. You can filter the list. Learn more about the Recent view.
  • In SharePoint 2010: Go to the Colleagues view in the People tab to see a list of your SharePoint Colleagues and Suggested Colleagues. You can filter the list. Learn more about building your SharePoit social network.
  • In SharePoint 2013 or later: Go to the Following view in the People tab to see a list of people you are following, and Suggested Colleagues. Learn more about building your SharePoit social network.
  • Go to the Updates view in the People tab to see updates made by your colleagues / people you follow: status message change, new Note Board or blog post, etc. You can filter the list. Learn more about viewing udpates.
  • Select a document in the harmon.ie sidebar. If one or more columns that include a user name (Modified By, Created By, or Checked Out) are displayed, the information for these people is shown in the people information pane.
  • Open the document properties. The people who Created, Modified, and (optionally) Checked Out the document are listed at the bottom of the Properties window. Click a user name to open their business card.
  • View list item info. Click properties of type Person or Group, or the Created and Modified properties at the bottom, to open the person's business card.
  • Select an email message. The sender and recipients are displayed in the people information pane.
  • Select a calendar event. The information for the attendees is displayed in the people information pane.

Note: To view the People tab, you must have a configured SharePoint social server.

To filter the people lists:

You can filter the people list using:

  • Find as you type: Type a name or a keyword. The people list only shows people that match the text and highlight the matched text.
    If you did not find the right person in the current list, click the Try searching again in SharePoint link (available in the Recent and the Colleagues/Following views) to launch a new people search in SharePoint.
  • Filter icons: Use the predefined filter icons in the people views to filter the list by a certain criteria:
    • Recent: click the People from SharePoint icon () to hide or show people from SharePoint.
    • Colleagues: filter the list by group.
    • Updates: filter the list by the type of document or colleagues updates.

Type a name or keyword to filter the people list.

The Recent view:

The Recent view displays the list of people you recently interacted with by email or Skype for Business / Sametime interactions. To create the Recent list, harmon.ie monitors your mail folders and instant messaging activities and lists the people you interact with. You can control the Recent list, using harmon.ie options. To do this:

  1. Click File > Preferences > harmon.ie > Social.
  2. Click Reference direct messages only to restrict the Recent people list to include only people that sent email messages directly to you (i.e. you are in the To list) and people you sent email messages directly to (i.e. they were in the To list).
