When researching SharePoint collaboration and Social Business best practices, we discovered a number of individuals providing exceptional advice.  Advice that helps SharePoint administrators build high adoption sites that employees get excited about.  Using innovative ideas and approaches, they offer a new road map for companies looking to manage SharePoint more strategically.

Since the demand to make SharePoint more social has increased tremendously over the past 12 months, our goal for the list was to identify the SharePoint thought leaders providing the best guidance for companies looking to increase their social and collaboration capabilities. We were careful to select the most knowledgeable, most influential and most social SharePoint influencers based on a similar methodology that was featured in the New York Times.

At harmon.ie , we are deeply committed to providing a remarkable SharePoint experience by turning Outlook into a collaborative and social workspace. From listening and following these influencers, our knowledge of the space has improved which has informed our product strategy.

In compiling our ranking of the most influential in the SharePoint social business community, we looked at over 700 people and chose a variety of metrics to measure influence. Our SharePoint Most Influential (SMI) formula consists of a weighted average across a range of metrics including Alexa, Klout Influence, Google Page Rank, PeerIndex, HowSociable  and Twitter Followers.

In determining which SharePoint thought leaders are most influential the following criteria needed to be met:

  1. The individual needed to have a substantial online social presence.
  2. The influencer needed to have an emphasis on both SharePoint and Social Business practices.

The SMI formula illustrates how much influence the individual has in relation to the other thought leaders. These influencers were first scored for online influence then compared to one another to create the top 25 ranking.

To illustrate, although the Jeremy Thake does not have the most followers or the highest Klout, his Microsoft MVP status, Slideshare Channel, LinkedIn Profile, and Blog articles pushed his overall influence score above the others. But it was close.  In fact, the top 5 were within points of one another.

Here we look at the top 25 influencers with just a few of the scores we considered for this ranking; Twitter followers, PeerIndex and Klout.  These are people you need to know.
