Working with comment-enabled PDFs?

Here's what I'm trying to do:

1. I am uploading comment-enabled PDF's to Sharepoint.
2. Reviewers will open the PDF's in Acrobat Reader, and using the Acrobat markup tools, make their comments, save and close. Possibly multiple users doing this at the same time.
3. I will make the requested revisions and upload new PDFs for review and commenting.
4. After X number of review cycles, reviewers will approve the file.

My questions are:
1. In the demo, it says you can approve or reject a document from harmon.ie. How is that accomplished? In my case with the PDFs, would it just be a comment from within the PDF? Or is there an approved/rejected setting in harmon.ie?

2. I am able to make comments to the PDF and save them without checking it out. How will this work with multiple users trying to review the document at the same time?

3. If I check out the PDF, then click edit, I can make comments to the PDF and click save within Acrobat, but back in the harmon.ie window, when I choose Check in, I get the error message "Failed to check in document. The system cannot find the file specified." I click ok, then I click Discard Check Out, and then I get the error message "Failed to discard check out of document 'Document Name Here'." I click ok, and the PDF disappears from the harmon.ie window. So then I do a refresh in the harmon.ie window, and the PDF reappears, with the changes I have made saved- how weird!

4. When I drag a PDF to mine Outlook new message window, and it creates a link to the PDF... this link it creates seems to automatically open the PDF from with an Internet Explorer browser window. Is there a way to assign the link to be opened by Adobe Acrobat Reader instead? Because opening it in the Internet Explorer window does not allow the user access to any of Acrobat's markup tools (which is what I need).

5. Is harmon.ie meant to mainly work only with the Microsoft Office Suite of products and not PDFs?

Thanks for your help!

Teresa

PDF fails to open correctly when link forwarded

I have been testing your harmon.ie product with a few of my employees and intend to purchased the enterprise version for Sharepoint after testing is complete.

I have a similar problem to that listed above.

1) When I open documents in Harmon.ie that are Office 2010 formatted, I do not have a problem.
2) When I open PDF documents, I am not prompted to check out the documents and do not have the ability to save a new version of the PDF. This impacts me when I attempt to add comments, or if I decide to enter the document and make changes.
3) I am using Acrobat X.

The problem exists whether or not I am opening the PDF from the Harmon.ie explorer, or from a link placed in a document. Documents are essentially being opened in Read Only mode. I have setup Sharepoint per the Adobe Admin Guide, and have document check-in/out enabled.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem.

PDF Files

Hi Teresa,

1. Approving and rejecting documents are available in SharePoint document libraries where this feature is enabled. The comment and approval status are stored on the SharePoint server, as document metadata.

2. If the document library is configured to allow edits without checking out the document, simultaneous changes to a document overwrite previous changes. The SharePoint 2010 feature of collaborative editing is only available in the Office 2010 application suite.

3. Please contact support@mainsoft.com, and they will help you to solve this problem.

4. You can set how PDF files should open in Adobe Acrobat. See this link for more information.

5. Harmonie for SharePoint supports operations of the SharePoint server, and a SharePoint document library supports all file types. While there are integration features between Office and SharePoint, all standard SharePoint operations work independently of file format.
