Mail recipients do not need harmon.ie to open document links. Recipients need access permissions to the relevant SharePoint site in order to view the file. For more information, read Availability of document links.
The harmon.ie sidebar panel can be shown, hidden, or minimized. Click the X in the upper right corner of the sidebar to close the sidebar. To open the sidebar, click the Show Sidebar icon in the email toolbar. Click the > icon to minimize the sidebar. Clicking anywhere on the minimized sidebar opens it again.
harmon.ie helps eliminate the need for document attachments. However, there are cases when you want to send an attachment, for example, when sending a document to a partner or customer who does not have access to the corporate SharePoint service. To send a document as an attachment, right-click it and select Copy > Document, then paste the document in the e-mail message. Alternatively, hold down the Alt key and drag the document from the sidebar to the email message. To make this the default behavior, change drag-and-drop options.
Yes. harmon.ie uses the built-in search engine of SharePoint. You can search text inside documents, as well as search document properties, such as 'document owner'.

harmon.ie can access SharePoint sites using basic authentication, forms authentication, NTLM authentication, and Kerberos authentication. For custom authentication methods, use browser authentication. For more information, read adding SharePoint sites.
Google Docs uses different links to the same shared document, depending on whether you are accessing it from a free Google account or a paid Google Apps account. If you send a document link to someone outside your domain, the link is automatically modified so that the recipient can open it from their email. This makes the link in your Sent Items folder work for the recipient, but not for you. However, you can still see and access your document from the sidebar and from Google Docs on the web.
